Celebrating International Midwives & International Nurses Day
Geneva Health would like to recognise, acknowledge and celebrate
the dedication and commitment of Nurses and Midwives across the
globe as we celebrate International Nurses Day on May 12th and
International Midwives day on May 5th.
On these special days we give thanks to all the Geneva Nurses
and Midwives across the country who are exceptional professionals
and fantastic ambassadors for Geneva Health. They provide a
valuable contribution and play a vital element in the provision of
healthcare in New Zealand and around the world.
This year, the International Council of Nursing (ICN) raises
awareness of the global threat of chronic disease like diabetes,
cardiovascular diseases, respiratory diseases and cancer which are
the world's biggest preventable killers. ICN calls for nurses
to contribute to improvement in the health of populations across
the world through attention to chronic disease prevention.

- to celebrate the International Year of the Nurse throughout
the year 2010 in their respective countries and regions, as well as
globally.
- With the passage of a UN Resolution to adopt 2011-2020 as the
UN Decade for a Healthy world, a global plan is in place - with
specific national and regional action steps - to implement a series
of projects targeted toward creating a healthy world. This plan
will be developed by nurses from around the world and in
